Zainab Shirazi, MD

Dr. Zainab Shirazi is a dual board-certified physician in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation with a passion for advancing the health and performance of female athletes. She specializes in the non-operative management of musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries, providing comprehensive care for athletes of all ages and abilities. 

Dr. Shirazi completed her residency in physiatry at New York-Presbyterian (Columbia/Cornell). She then completed her sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado, working with both adult and pediatric athletes across a diverse set of clinical and athletic settings—including the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, Children’s Hospital of Colorado, and NCAA Division I athletics. Her coverage experience includes serving as a team physician for women’s lacrosse and cross country/track, as well as providing medical support for professional teams such as the Denver Nuggets. 

Dr. Shirazi uses an individualized and evidence-based approach to patient care and is deeply committed to helping individuals return to the activities they love. Her clinical expertise includes diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, orthobiologics, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT). She is highly skilled in performing minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedures and cutting-edge regenerative medicine treatments including platelet-rich plasma (PRP). She also has specialized training in adaptive sports, treating recreational and elite Paralympic athletes.

Dr. Shirazi has contributed to numerous publications in the field of regenerative medicine and female athlete care. She is actively involved in research on Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), bone health, and mental health in adolescent and collegiate female athletes. Her work has been presented at national conferences for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. 

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Shirazi has held national leadership roles within the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the Association of Academic Physiatrists, where she has worked to advance education, advocacy, and mentorship for trainees in the field. She is committed to building a practice that integrates evidence-based medicine, multidisciplinary collaboration, and community outreach to optimize the health and performance of active women and girls at every level of sport.
